The Transit Connect has created a stir among medical transport and cab
companies because of its roomy interior and its fantastic fuel
efficiency. The 2.0L Duratec 16-valve DOHC I-4 Engine holds the
best-in-class(1) 2012 EPA-estimated fuel economy
of 21 mpg city/27 mpg highway while providing 136 horsepower @ 6300 rpm,
128 lb.-ft. of torque @ 4750 rpm. The cast aluminum engine block and
cylinder head
reduces overall vehicle weight also helping fuel efficiency. This
balance of horsepower and fuel efficiency is accomplished with a DOHC,
16-valve cylinder head that delivers excellent combustion performance.
The Transit Connect uses a timing chain instead of a belt, helping to
again improve engine durability. This is a great fleet vehicle that
really stands up to the constant grind of driving. The low NVH (Noise,
Vibration and Harshness) characteristics contribute to a smooth ride
and quiet interior. Those who typically drive an Econoline or Savanna
rave about how quiet and easy to drive the Ford Transit Connect is
comparably. The fuel efficient motor is paired with a 4-speed automatic
transmission with overdrive. The fail-safe cooling system also ensures
that you are never stranded. This commercial fleet vehicle meets
Federal Tier 2 Bin 4 standards and qualifies for California Ultra Low
Emissions Vehicle II (ULEV II) standard.
The 4-speed Automatic Transmission with electronic shift control helps
provide smooth shifts and optimum performance. The overdrive lowers
engine rpm at highway speeds,
helping maximize fuel economy with a 3.96:1 final drive ratio.
The combination of the independent MacPherson strut front suspension,
multi-leaf rear suspension, rack-and pinion steering and Anti-lock
Braking System (ABS) allows the Transit Connect to drive and ride more
like a car than a working van. The Independent MacPherson Strut Front
Suspension also allows each front wheel to react to road
irregularities with minimal effect on the opposite wheel for a smooth,
controlled ride while also contributing to responsive steering. Ford
has also included a stabilizer bar to help reduce body roll while
cornering. The Transit Connect rides more like a car while working like
a van. The Multi-leaf Rear Suspension is Rugged in design and provides
load-carrying capability along with a smooth ride. Because the Ford
Transit Connect is so easy to drive it is much easier on the driver and
helps fight road fatigue. The solid Transit Connect design includes a
stabilizer bar to help reduce body roll
while cornering. The rack-and-pinion Steering maintains linear steering
effort as the driver turns the wheel resulting in responsive steering
with excellent return-ability and
handling characteristics. The Transit also boasts a tight 39.0-foot
(curb-to-curb) turning diameter helping to make the Transit Connect as
nimble as a small car. Engineers of the Ford Transit Connect chose
power front disc/rear drum system that provides sure,
controlled stops coupled with anti-lock Braking System (ABS) that is
standard on all 2012 and newer Transit Connect Vans and Wagons.
The Ford Engineers understand the needs of any commercial fleet and
answered with easy maintenance for the Ford Transit Connect.
The 97,500-mile spark plug replacement interval provides added
convenience and reduced service requirements under normal driving
conditions. The maintenance-free battery reduces long-term maintenance
costs and is standard on all Transit Connect models. The yellow-coded
service points enable technicians to readily identify key components
during routine maintenance for quicker, more efficient service and to
get you back on the road faster.
