How to Set Up Trailer Profiles | A Ford Towing Video Guide

Erroll:
Now that we've gotten in, I've turned the vehicle on in accessory mode and boom, immediately it's already telling me, "Hey, do you want to go ahead and add this new trailer?"

Bobby:
Right.

Erroll:
Is that because we connected the seven pin in the back?

Bobby:
Yes it is.

Erroll:
Okay.

Bobby:
The vehicle detected the trailer and that's why the screen is here.

Erroll:
Nice. All right, so let's go ahead and follow the prompts and walk everybody through adding it in.

Bobby:
Okay.

Erroll:
We're just going to go ahead and add a new trailer. Let's go ahead, we're going to name our trailer.

Bobby:
Now with this, you can create any name you want, but you have up to 20 characters for the name.

Erroll:
Okay. Any name I want.

Bobby:
Yes.

Erroll:
I'm going to keep it simple. I'm going to call it Goose. How about that?

Bobby:
Okay.

Erroll:
All right. Go ahead and name that. All right, good. Then my trailer type. It automatically pops up with conventional gooseneck fifth wheel.

Bobby:
Right.

Erroll:
Nice. Well obviously we know which one we're going with. All right, so gooseneck here. All right, go ahead and continue. I'll save this one. Now the nice thing about it, I get to save up to 10 profiles, right?

Bobby:
Yes.

Erroll:
Nice. Okay, so this one is saved. Now I have nine more left. All right, so walk me through this Bobby. It's got a default and an electric over hydraulic. Which one should I go within this application?

Bobby:
For this trailer, this is an electric brake trailer, right. For the electric it's listed under electric surge and none. You would do it as default.

Erroll:
Okay.

Bobby:
If we had an electric over hydraulic, then we'll go with the second option. For this we want to use default.

Erroll:
Okay, perfect. I'll go ahead and say that one. All right. Then what do you recommend for my trailer brake effort?

Bobby:
Based off the way that this trailer, it's a new trailer, I would go with medium.

Erroll:
Okay.

Bobby:
If we were towing much, much heavier, or this was like an older trailer or something like that, we may want to go to high, but for this medium.

Erroll:
Medium, all right, sounds good. Perfect. This is part of what we did preliminary getting ready. I do have these notes in here so I can go ahead and plug these in. The length that I have is 35 feet, so I'll go ahead and change this. All right, there we go. Then my width is actually eight and a half. Now here's what I also enjoy with my sync screen. I can either tap or I can go ahead and slide, which makes it really easy. Depending on which way I feel I can tap or slide and get the data input the way I want. Then my height is 10. All right, good. Boom. Then my weight is actually 15,680. Let me go ahead. Wait a minute. Wait, let me enter... Well wait a minute, Bobby. All right, so wait, hold on. Okay, I'm not missing anything. Okay, what do I do in this instance? I've either got 15, 500 or 1600 as my options. Now what do you recommend based on the fact that we're at 15,680? We're sitting right in between the two.

Bobby:
Yeah, so I would suggest that we round up to 16. The whole significance of this is that you want to make sure that you're covered because it's using this information to help route you if you were going to plan a navigation route from here to wherever you want it to go.

Erroll:
Okay.

Bobby:
It's going to route you based off information you'll put here. Because you want to make sure you're safe and that you don't cross any weight restrictions, you should always just round up.

Erroll:
That makes sense. I see the logic in that. I've already got it to 1600. We're good there. I'll go ahead and press enter. All right, now all of our data, we can double check it here. Everything looks accurate. We'll go ahead and click confirm. All right, and Goose is now active, so we did it. All right. Perfect.
